The Outlands on the in-game Monster Hunter Outlanders map

This is the real map screen from the official Adventure Guide: the Outlands region where the story starts, with the Village at the bottom, the region edge glowing yellow and unexplored land in red haze. The icons are monsters and gathering spots, and the left column tracks what you have found.

How to farm materials in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Monster materials come from carving, capturing and breaking parts of the monster, so the first question for any armor set is where that monster lives. The map above answers it for every large monster at launch. Breaking the weak part listed on each monster page adds extra drops, and Radiant forms drop the Radiantite-charged materials used in Radiant armor.

Giant Tree region on the map

The story starts in the Outlands, open grassland where Great Jagras and Kulu-Ya-Ku roam. The Mud Swamp opens in Chapter 1 and is where crafting unlocks; Pukei-Pukei is the headline hunt there. The Misty Forest under the giant trees holds Tobi-Kadachi and Rathian, and Pukei-Pukei roams there too.

Scorching Sands region on the map

The Sand Oasis and the Great Sand Sea are desert areas. Bring Cool Drinks for the daytime heat. Barroth, Jyuratodus, Anjanath and Diablos live here, so this is where you farm the fire-weak Barroth set and the ice-weak Diablos set.

Monster dens in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Dens are instanced hunts. Several Radiant forms, plus monsters such as Paolumu and Odogaron, are reported to appear only in dens, so if a monster is missing from the open world, check the den list.

About area names on this Monster Hunter Outlanders map

The English client may use different area names: ours are translations of the Japanese client, and each area shows its Japanese name so you can match it in game. The Outlands name comes from the official in-game map. The six-area overview shows how the areas connect, not their real shapes. Gathering-point locations for ores, herbs and bugs are not yet published by two sources, so we have not plotted them; they will be added to this map once they are.
